If you’re a Pokemon GO player who logs into the app using their Pokemon Trainer Club credentials, it is of utmost importance that you immediately check your username and password and keep them in a safe location. From tomorrow November 15th, 2023, Niantic will be implementing a forced logout for every single player who logs in using their Pokemon Trainer Club credentials.
The username that you chose when you created your Pokemon Trainer Club account may differ from the in-game name that you selected for Pokemon GO itself. So do not assume these details will match your Pokemon GO details! If you’ve been logged in, and not had to use these credentials for quite some time, you may have forgotten them. If that is the case, you can recover your account information here. Making sure that you know your details in advance and recovering them if you do not will allow you to continue to play Pokemon GO seamlessly without issue.
The forced logout is because Niantic is updating how people log in with Pokemon Trainer Club accounts. After it has been updated, trainers will still login using the same method used previously. The only difference is that there will be a new and updated login screen. To go alongside this change, Niantic rewards players who log in with these credentials after the update with a so-far unspecified item reward.
It seems that Niantic is attempting to secure Pokemon GO accounts, and this update to Pokemon Trainer Club is a step in that direction. With a reward for linking a Pokemon Trainer Club account to your Pokemon GO account, it feels as if, going forward, this will be Niantic’s preferred method of logging into the game.
