It won’t be long before Fatal Fury’s Mai Shiranui joins Street Fighter 6’s roster as the game’s latest crossover character. The game’s most recent trailer shows off her stylish gameplay, and a helpful official blog post supplements the trailer with more in-depth information. It seems like the fan-favorite femme fantastique will be as faithful to her Fatal Fury counterpart as Street Fighter 6’s Terry Bogard was to his original, which should make for a fun fighter to learn for both classic fans and newcomers alike.
The gameplay trailer in question showcases Mai’s special moves and combos as she fights against Chun-Li. Like the nimble ninja that she is, it can be tough to keep up with what Mai’s doing at times, especially when she starts mixing her Super Arts into the mix. Thankfully, the official Street Fighter 6 Steam page follows up the gameplay trailer with an in-depth blog post, detailing the nitty-gritty of Mai’s moves. An especially notable trait is Flame Stocks: Flame Stocks enhance Mai’s special moves as well as her Level 1 and Level 2 Super Arts. Mai gains five Flame Stocks when she uses her Level 1 Super Art, so players will want to work it into their combos and really set the battlefield ablaze with Mai’s scorching strikes.
One thing that is made clear from the trailer is that Mai’s Outfit 2 is indeed her new getup from Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. It may seem expected, but it’s no doubt welcomed, as her new clothes represent her return to the Fatal Fury series after her absence from Mark of the Wolves, as well as the return of the Fatal Fury series in general, since City of the Wolves is the first Fatal Fury game to be released after Mark of the Wolves in 1999. The trailer description also confirms Mai Shiranui will be available in Street Fighter 6 starting on February 5. Together with Terry, Mai can help tide fans over until Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves’s release more than two months later on April 24.
The blog post also shares some artwork that looks like it could be from Mai’s Arcade Mode story. If that’s the case, it means Mai will encounter Juri on her adventures in Metro City. While fans wait patiently for City of the Wolves, they can enjoy some silly antics in Street Fighter 6 with the “goodest” girl Mai and “goodest” boy Terry.
