Sony surprised console players earlier this month when they shared an inside look at what the next generation of PlayStation will look like. Though they didn't directly call it the PlayStation 5, they did say the next-gen console will be bigger and better than ever before. The company also mentioned the PS5 wouldn't see a PS5 release for 2019, though they were strangely quiet when 2020 came up. Though we still don't have an official release date, Sony took another moment to reiterate the no 2019 plans in light of new rumors.

According to Wall Street journalist Takashi Mochizuki following a recent Sony investor call, the company implicitly stated that there would be no new PlayStation launch "over the next 12 months." A very specific timeframe which does line up with previous leaks mentioning a Summer, possible November PS5 launch for 2020.

Unfortunately, with Sony opting out of E3 this year, we know we won't be getting any official update then, though the company did mention that they have something "special" to host on their own dime outside of the Los Angeles expo. It seems like Sony is very excited to share more with how open they've been in April, and we're definitely excited to see what's next for the next generation of console gaming.
