Overwatch debuted a new brawl mode today with their Year of the Rooster trailer. In the video, we take a look at some footage that reveals a new competitive mode where your team will have to “Capture the Rooster” under a beautiful show of fireworks at the Lijiang Tower. Capture the Rooster is just a witty play on words, and most people will recognize this as a good ‘ol fashioned game of Capture the Flag where the team that can secure the flag wins the match.
The new brawl mode is a slightly different take on Capture the Flag which will require some quick and sturdy teamwork. Capturing the Rooster takes some time as a progress bar needs to be filled in order to obtain it. This process can be easily interrupted by the opposing team if the character capturing takes any damage. It’s also possible to capture the enemy’s flag while your flag is away from the base. It’s safe to say that Overwatch players can expect some pretty thrilling firefights during the Lunar New Year.
Starting today, you’ll be able to participate in the Year of the Rooster event, and for the next 3 weeks, you’ll be able to nab some pretty amazing cosmetic items. Traditional Loot Box prizes will be replaced with over 100 new lucky Lunar skins, victory poses, highlight intros, icons, sprays and more.
The Year of the Rooster event along with the newest brawl mode is available starting today on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One until February 14th.
