Overwatch Workshop Allows Players to Build Their Own Games and Heroes

Overwatch Workshop puts the power into the hands of players.

Blizzard has been doing a stellar job at providing a constant flow of new content for Overwatch players to enjoy, but there’s always more that can be done. While the studio continues to turn out content such as new maps, events, and heroes, players can now contribute their own creativity thanks to the newly unveiled Overwatch Workshop.

“Create games in ways previously unimaginable with the Workshop,” reads the latest blog post from Blizzard. “The Workshop is a simplified game scripting system that expands the customization features available in the Game Browser. Within the Workshop, you’ll create a Script to add Rules and unique play Conditions on top of the established Overwatch game modes you already know and love. Rules can do many things, like change how a hero’s movement and abilities work, modify how players are damaged or healed, or even display text under certain circumstances.”

Torbjorn mains can turn up the heat with a Molten Floor creation, which takes “the floor is lava” to an all new level by having a player catch on fire if they touch the ground.

Players can also make their own Rules and Conditions to a map, while also completely switching up how a hero moves and reacts within the game. Heals, damage, badassery – it all can be altered within the Workshop.

For those that are a little miffed with constant bugs (which, hey – online gaming, it happens), bugs can also be fixed by using the Workshop script.

The team also supplied fans with two new game modes to show everyone what sort of possibilities are available. The first being the Molten Floor mode seen above, with the second being the Mirrored Deathmatch mode that has players mirror each other to accumulate the most kills.

There’s so much more that this Workshop has, and even more on the way. You can learn more about the latest addition right here and then get in on the action yourself because it’s available now in the game’s Public Test Realm.
