Surprise Octopath Traveler 2 Update Dropped on Steam With New Boss Fights

A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one

Octopath Traveler 2 was released on PC, PS4, PS5, and the Nintendo Switch in 2023, and it’s been a while since the title has received any major updates. Today, a surprise update for Octopath Traveler 2 has dropped on Steam, which adds a few more boss fights against some familiar characters.

The update had no prior announcement and is currently only available on Steam. Here are the full patch notes for the update version 1.1.

Title Screen

  • Added new mode: Extra Battles (available after clearing the story).

Miscellaneous

  • Edited the credits.
  • Edited various graphics.
  • Implemented new tutorial text for update additions.

The “Extra Battles” part is the highlight here because this adds three additional boss fights that can be accessed after finishing the game. If you’re a fan of the series, I highly recommend going in blind because you’ll see some familiar faces that are best left as a surprise.

However, if you’re curious about who these bosses are, I’ve listed those below.

Spoilers Below

Octopath Traveler Update 1.1 adds the following three boss battles.

  • Olberic, Tressa, Ophilia, and Alfyn from Octopath Traveler 1
  • Therion, Primrose, H’aanit, and Cyrus from Octopath Traveler 1
  • “True Vide”, a stronger version of the regular final boss of Octopath Traveler 2

Octopath Traveler 2 was also confirmed for Xbox One and Xbox Series S|X and is supposed to come out in early 2024.

This update is likely to be in conjunction with that release, and there’s a very good chance we’ll see the release date revealed in the coming days during Summer Game Fest.
