No plans for L4D on PS3

Valve just haven’t had the phone call

Valve has said it isn’t currently planning on a PS3 release for upcoming zombie co-op shooter Left 4 Dead.

When asked if a PS3 release was being considered, Spokesperson for Valve Doug Lombardi said the company only had “limited interest”. The Orange Box only ever came to the PS3, apparently, because Electronic Arts had requested, and subsequently dealt with the whole thing.

“EA wanted to do Orange Box on PS3 and they handled it,” Doug Lombardi said speaking to videogaming247 [link]. “Left 4 Dead isn’t coming out on PS3 because we’ve not had that call. If the phone rang we would have the conversation, certainly, but it hasn’t happened.”

Despite the company’s past problems with porting games to consoles, Valve have now got themselves a team dedicated to creating Xbox 360 code alongside their PC efforts. It seems this is to be the way they’ll handle games for quite some time, so PS3 users will unfortunately have to wait while third-party developers volunteer themselves to take the plunge with future ports.

Left 4 Dead is a squad-based co-op FPS that tasks players with taking on huge amounts of zombies. As well as fighting the Infected however; other modes of play allow teams to control the unholy beasts themselves whilst going against human squad.

Whilst controlling zombies your team will have a lot of problems staying alive for a  long time, but hey, what does it matter when you simply respawn as another immediately after death. Boss zombies feature massive tongues, super exploding abilities and other special powers, and are also playable.

Though the focus is on multiplayer, it’s also possible to play solo with and against AI.

Left 4 Dead is out this summer, which seems like a long way away considering how long it’s been in production. Don’t worry though; we are constantly reassured by Valve that the wait is to enable the team to make L4D super-duper fantastic.
