It’s been over a decade since Left 4 Dead 2 launched and for the first time in years, this horror co-op adventure just got a new update. To celebrate the new Left 4 Dead 2 update, called The Last Stand, Valve shared a new trailer bringing back that undead hype.

“It has been many years since the infection first hit. Radio silence, no sign of life, nothing but lingering hopes … CEDA is not going to save us,” reads the latest blog post on the official Left 4 Dead website. “But there is hope! A few brave souls have continued the fight against all odds, and soon we can all benefit from their resilience.”

The Last Stand update is an update that was created by the community specifically for the community. While full details haven’t been revealed quite yet, the team did release a video to tease the road ahead for this beloved online game:

So what is this new update? We don’t exactly know, but Left 4 Dead lore does state that “The Last Stand” is supposed to be an alternative narrative route that ends up in a lighthouse hoping for a rescue that never comes, making a different decision in-game as to where to go. This was the birth of the Survival Mode, so it looks like this new update could be a new map or even an entirely new campaign.

For now, it’s all speculation, but we’re excited to see a new update on the horizon for Left 4 Dead. This game was iconic and truly shaped the way horror experiences interacted in a co-op environment. Much like Half-Life, Left 4 Dead had a true impact on gaming and game development, so to see the sequel get an update is something we are hyped for but never thought we’d see.

Who knows, maybe if this new update goes off to be a massive success, Valve will finally give fans a new experience with Left 4 Dead 3. We can dream, Harold.
