Earlier this week, a new RPG called MONARK was revealed in Japan. What makes this game especially notable, is that the development team comprises people who have worked on the Shin Megami Tensei series. MONARK, which appears to borrow many familiar elements from its teams’ previous work, is set to launch in Japan in October 2021. Today, NIS America has already confirmed a localization, which is set for early 2022. This new JRPG IP will land on the PS4, PS5, Switch and PC.

A brief synopsis from NISA hints at what MONARK is all about. A “madness-inducing mist” has engulfed Shin Mikado Academy, presumably a high school-level setting. As the player you’ll develop your “Ego,” and face off against an antagonistic force called the “Pactbearers” to get rid of that mist.
In addition to the localization announcement, NISA has released a trailer for the announcement, which you can check out below:
An official website has also been launched, where more details will undoubtedly come to live over the coming months.
So, readers, what do you think? Did you expect such a fast announcement for MONARK getting localized? Are you excited to see what a new IP from ex-developers from Shin Megami Tensei can be? Let us know at Prima Games’ Facebook and Twitter feeds!
