Are There Nintendo Switch Online SNES Games?

With the launch of the Nintendo Switch Online service, a lot of people have been asking if you can play Super Nintendo games. While it seems to be the question on everyone’s mind, Nintendo has not yet confirmed if you can play SNES games on Nintendo Switch Online. Nintendo Switch Online SNES Games

At the moment there’s no way to play Super Nintendo games using the Nintendo Switch Online service. You can only play a handful of NES games, with more new games being added every month. However, we also know that Nintendo currently has no plans to add a Virtual Console feature to the Nintendo Switch, which means that most people believe the addition of Super Nintendo games is more so a matter of when, not if.

Nintendo has confirmed the NES games being added to the service through the end of 2018. That almost certainly means you won’t find any Super Nintendo games until at least 2019. However, once we get into 2019 all bets are off. Most assume SNES games will be added sooner rather than later, but given that Nintendo is taking extra care with the NES games and even adding online multiplayer, it may take some time before we see SNES games on the Nintendo Switch Online service.
