Nintendo Switch 2 Players Will Have to Wait Longer for 007 First Light
Shaken, not stirred.
007 First Light is one of the year’s best releases and launched on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S this May. It was also announced for Nintendo Switch 2, but was initially delayed to “late summer.” Now, IO Interactive has shared another update on its release date, and it’s not good news.
007 First Light’s Switch 2 Version Delayed to 2027
IO Interactive announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the Nintendo Switch 2 version of 007 First Light has been delayed to March 2027.
The studio said it needs more time to polish the game’s performance on the hybrid console and noted that it was thrilled by the positive feedback from the demo at Gamescom. The same demo will also be playable at Tokyo Game Show this week.
IO Interactive hasn’t shared an exact date yet, but March 2027 is the new release window. Today is also the date for the Path Tracing update, but as of this writing, the patch isn’t available just yet.
007 First Light was originally supposed to launch on Switch 2 alongside the other platforms, but it’s clear the developers need more time to optimize the game for the console and deliver the experience they’re aiming for. Impressions from the Gamescom demo have been fairly mixed, with some outlets citing visual and clarity issues, although there’s no indication that these directly contributed to the delay.
Delays like this happen, and it’s perfectly fine if a studio needs more time to make sure its vision isn’t compromised by technical limitations. The Switch 2 is a fairly capable console, and with enough time, I’m sure IO Interactive can deliver a solid experience for Switch 2 owners.
While March 2027 is a considerable wait, I’d rather see 007 First Light arrive later in a polished state than have IO Interactive rush the port out alongside the other versions. The extra development time should give the team a chance to address any remaining performance and graphical issues and make sure the game feels properly optimized for Nintendo’s hardware. Hopefully, we’ll get a more specific release date and another look at the Switch 2 version in the coming months.
