Mulaka Devs Reveal New Game, Aztech Forgotten Gods

Get ready to take on the Gods!

During Nintendo’s Indie World Showcase, Mulaka developer Lienzo unveiled a brand new game called Aztech Forgotten Gods. In the game you play as Achtli, a young woman who accidentally awakens ancient gods that linger forgotten beneath a futuristic Aztec city.

Mulaka Devs Reveal New Game, Aztech Forgotten Gods

Aztech Forgotten Gods is one of the games that immediately caught our attention as we watched Nintendo’s Indie World Showcase. The game comes courtesy of indie developer Lienzo who previously released the critically acclaimed Mulaka back in 2018.

For those who missed out on Mulaka, the game lets you play as a Tarahumara shaman named Sukurúame and explore environments inspired by real Sierra Tarahumara locations.

In a feature from Variety where Lienzo’s Edgar Serrano speaks about the development of Mulaka, it’s noted:

“The team secured the blessing of Tarahumara elders and worked closely with experts on the culture, making several trips back to the Sierra to share their progress with the people who had inspired the game.”

A lot of work and love clearly went into Mulaka, and that same love is now being applied to Lienzo’s newly announced game, Aztech Forgotten Gods.

Set in an alternative future where the Aztec empire was never conquered “and thus has flourished into a hyper-advanced civilization” players will be treated to Aztec lore in a fun, action-packed setting.

“Lienzo’s proud to be fleshing out a Mexican story with a Mexican team,” said Guillermo Vizcaino, Head of PR and Marketing and Lead Writer. “There’s such a rich history behind the Aztecs, and merging that with an anime-inspired story gave us the chance to make something really special.”

For more on what you can expect from the game, here’s the official description for Aztech Forgotten Gods:

“Aztech Forgotten Gods is the cyber-stone action-adventure following Achtli, a young woman who battles the colossal Forgotten Gods.

To uncover the truth behind her far-future Mesoamerican metropolis, she’ll have to turn the Gods’ power against them, as she soars through the city with power and grace using an ancient artifact, remnant of a time long forgotten.”

The website for Aztech Forgotten Gods also goes into additional detail about elements of the game, explaining how Achtli inadvertently awakened these Forgotten Gods while on a dig with her archeologist mother Nantsin.

All in all, Aztech Forgotten Gods looks absolutely amazing and we can’t wait to experience it ourselves once it’s released.

Speaking of the game’s release, Aztech Forgotten Gods will be available in English and Spanish on Nintendo Switch as well as Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC sometime later this year.

As soon as an exact release date is announced, we’ll be sure to share that with you. Until then, we recommend checking out the game’s official website. Also be sure to follow developer Lienzo on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, and join their Discord!
