Minecraft Takes Top Spot On Xbox Live Activity

Look out, Call of Duty, the diggers are coming for you.

Out of all the top games being played on Xbox Live right now, we’d expect that a first-person shooter would definitely sit at the peak, something along the lines of Halo Reach or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.  But, surprise, it’s a different kind of first-person adventure that took the cheese for the week ending October 15th.

According to Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb’s latest blog post, the Xbox Live Arcade edition of Minecraft, which has been growing in sales and popularity since its release earlier this year, was the highest played game for that week, with Modern Warfare 3 taking a second place spot.  That speaks huge volumes about the game, especially considering the only other Xbox Live Arcade game that made the list was the free-to-play Happy Wars.

There’s still plenty of action happening online through the service, and with Halo 4, Assassin’s Creed III and Call of Duty: Black Ops II not far off, there’s plenty of competition.  Let’s see if Minecraft can keep clawing its way to the top over the holiday season…
