Minecraft Getting a PvP Mode This June

Mojang has confirmed that Minecraft will be going a bit on the competitive side next month.

Minecraft is usually known for its carefree, build-your-own-adventure style of play, but this June, it’ll get a new mode that will add a competitive side of things to the mix.

Mojang has confirmed that the game will receive a PvP-based Battle mode, which will launch across the board for free on consoles next month, including PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PS Vita, Wii U, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

In the mode, players can battle in generated arenas, picking up chests scattered throughout to get their hands on loot and weaponry. At the same time, they’ll battle against others, with up to four players in split-screen combat or eight in online battles.

And those who do end up getting “fragged” will still be able to take part in the action, as they’ll turn into bats that can fly around the playfield until they eventually regenerate.

“Of course, coming up with improvised rules and new ways to play with friends is already a popular activity among Minecraft: Console Edition players – and long may it continue!” Microsoft stated in a blog post.

“But with our new mini games, we’ll be helping you quickly and easily jump into competitions with tailor-made rule sets, so you can have fun straight away without having to fuss around with manual count-downs, laboriously prep loot chests or keep score.”

In addition, extra map packs will be available for purchase in the future for $2.99, which will no doubt add to Mojang’s continuing Minecraft revenue.

Look for the mode to arrive sometime in June!
