Rockstar Games is ramping up for the release of its highly anticipated Max Payne 3, which is sure to enthrall gamers with its slow-motion action and non-stop bloodshed.

As part of the promotional push for the game, the company announced it will publish the soundtrack for Max Payne 3 on May 23, with the lead-in song, first heard during the TV ads for the game, releasing on iTunes May 15.  Finally, music to kill by!

Ironically enough, the band that produced the Max Payne soundtrack is called Health, an LA based group that first formed in 2006.  “Health have created hundreds of hours of amazing music for the game’s score, and distilled it into a devastatingly moody and atmospheric soundtrack album,” said Rockstar soundtrack supervisor Ivan Pavlovich.  “By using a band instead of a traditional composer, we’ve created a soundtrack that sounds completely unique.”

While not as big as, say the box set of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City soundtracks (complete with DJ voiceovers), Max Payne 3’s score should be a big hit with gamers.  Look for more coverage on Max in the weeks ahead.
