Spider-man, spider-man, he does whatever a spider can – as long as it’s on PlayStation. Marvel’s Avengers Adds PlayStation-Exclusive Spider-Man, Fans Aren’t Happy

Marvel’s Spider-Man was a massive hit for PlayStation thanks to Insomniac Games, a move that eventually led to the studio being acquired by the folks over at Sony. While exclusive content can be a bummer oftentimes, in this instance it makes sense. What better way to celebrate an incredible exclusive and to promote the upcoming Miles Morales experience than by spreading that Spidey love even further.

Still, that didn’t stop people from being a little upset by the latest exclusivity move:

To say that the reactions were mixed is a massive understatement. PlayStation fans were thrilled but those that may not have a PlayStation system due to preferring other platforms were less than excited:

Spider-Man will be joining the fray post-launch as a few new character, inspired not by the films themselves but the comics that inspired them. “To make sure this team up goes smoothly, Vince Napoli, our Lead Combat Designer, is hard at work making Spider-Man just as great on the sticks as he is on the page,” reads the latest PlayStation Blog post.

“This means making sure our hero moves and fights like he should, no matter which one of our War Zones he finds himself in.  When he’s arcing through the air on his web line, we want you to feel graceful and light, and be able to utilize a variety of web configurations and gadgets to enhance your traversal.  Spider-Man’s impressive acrobatic abilities will complement the experience, allowing you to seamlessly transition from navigation to combat.”

While we don’t have an exact release date for when this hero swings onto the Marvel’s Avengers roster, we do know that he is planned for “early 2021.” Even better? He’ll be completely free-to-play – as long as you have a PlayStation.
