Mai Shiranui Dances into Street Fighter 6 in New Teaser Trailer

Float like a butterfly, sting like a folding fan

It simultaneously feels like forever ago and just yesterday that Terry Bogard joined the Street Fighter 6 crew. Now the highly anticipated day of Mai Shiranui joining Street Fighter 6 will soon be upon us. A recent teaser trailer gave players their first look at the SNK sweetheart in the world of Street Fighter, and she looks as powerful as she is pretty.

The trailer follows the World Tour Mode player character on another excursion to meet his latest master. Shenanigans ensue, with Mai gracefully incapacitating a group of ninjas waiting for her in ambush. As Mai defeats her ninja opponents, she shows off her signature flashy battle style, including the aerial and fire moves that she’s best known for. The Street Fighter move set for fellow SNK crossover character Terry turned out impressively accurate to his source material, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see Mai join the roster as an air specialist like she tends to be, with flips and twirls like the ones shown in the trailer.

Terry’s teaser trailer in July didn’t convey just how elaborate his Street Fighter 6 gameplay would be. Players started getting a sense of his complexity in his dedicated gameplay trailer one month later and got to experience it firsthand the month after in September 2024. Mai’s moves in her teaser trailer are already quite extravagant, but it may only be scratching the surface of what we can expect from her gameplay.

If Mai follows in Terry’s footsteps, we may get a gameplay trailer for her in January, and see her join Street Fighter 6 sometime in February 2025. While nothing is certain for now, the 2024 Winter DLC character Ed was also released in the tail end of February. After Mai, we’ll have to patiently await Elena’s arrival in spring, after which we’ll start to welcome speculation for Street Fighter 6’s Season 3 DLC.
