The performance patch will let players choose between a Framerate Target of 30 FPS or 60 FPS. Essentially, this is the main focus of the patch. However, the PS Blog post makes it sound like additional PS5 patches could be coming in the future.

The Last of Us Part II is Getting a 60 FPS Patch for PS5

If you own a copy of The Last of Us Part II for PS5, you’ll be happy to hear that a performance patch is available right now that, once installed, will allow you to choose between a Framerate Target of 30 FPS or 60 FPS.

Addressing the patch, Arne Meyer, Director of Communications at Naughty Dog, wrote on the PS Blog

“Once patch 1.08 for The Last of Us Part II is installed on your PS5, you will find a toggle in the Display options that allows you to choose between a Framerate Target of 30 FPS or 60 FPS.

This allows you to choose your preferred framerate to complement the rest of the enhancements that are part of the PS5 backward compatibility with PS4 games, such as an enhanced resolution, faster load times, and more.”

Other things mentioned in the PS Blog post include mention of how incredible and humbling it’s been to see The Last of Us Part II sweep over 300 Game of the Year Awards.

“So far 2021 has been incredible, and supremely humbling, as The Last of Us Part II has been recognized with over 300 Game of the Year Awards, an unprecedented achievement.

We are super grateful to our community for your terrific support over the past year, including voting us the BAFTA EE Game of the Year and the Golden Joystick Ultimate Game of the Year.

We’ve received a ton of fan mail letting us know how meaningful The Last of Us series has been for you and we’ve been astounded by all the excellent fanart, cosplay, and tattoos you have been sharing with us.”

First, a huge congratulations to the team at Naughty Dog on the success of The Last of Us Part II, and on the release of the PS5 performance patch today!

Second, at the end of the PS Blog post, it sounds like the PS5 performance patch is one of the first, but certainly not the last. In fact, it sounds like the team may have additional PS5 updates that further take advantage of the next-gen hardware of the PS5.

“The team has been digging into the PS5 hardware and the possibilities it unlocks since launch last year and we’re excited about what the future holds. This patch is just the first step of working on the PS5. We’ll let you know when we’ve got more news to share!”

Of course, it’s early to speculate over what Naughty Dog might have planned in the way of PS5 performance patches for The Last of Us Part II. With that being said, it’s always nice to hear that Naughty Dog is digging into possibilities for future PS5 patches, and we look forward to hearing more about this in the future.

Until then, the PS5 performance patch for The Last of Us Part II is available right now. While you download the patch, we’re curious to hear what you think about the PS Blog post.
