iPhone 5 packs a punch with ‘console quality’ graphics

'Console quality' graphics for when you're on the move

The new gaming console, sorry, iPhone 5, has finally been unveiled by Apple. Apple’s senior vice president, Philip Schiller, declared it ‘the most beautiful product we have ever made’. As well as being thinner and lighter than its predecessor, the good news for gamers is that it also flaunts a larger four-inch screen with an impressive 1136 x 604 resolution Retina display. The colour saturation has also been improved by almost 50%, which will give games a more vivid and lifelike feel.

The touch sensitivity of the screen has also been improved, offering a sharper response, which Schiller describes as “the most accurate display in the industry”. The all-new A6 chip, which has been designed by Apple, is lightning fast, twice as quick as the iPhone 4S, but with a longer battery life.

Executive producer at EA, Rob Murray, took to the stage to demonstrate what’s in store for gamers, showing off Real Racing 3, by Firemonkies, which boasts photo realistic graphics. Murray demonstrated the capabilities of the device he describes as “full console quality” and also highlighted a new feature available through Apple’s Game Center called Time-shifted Multiplayer. This new feature allows buddies to race each other head-to-head, despite not being connected at the same time

Other features include the super-advanced iOS 6, enhanced audio capabilities and a completely redesigned 8 megapixel camera which can shoot HD videos and also features a new Panoramic mode, allowing you to take multiple photos which are stitched together seamlessly to create a panoramic photo of up to 28 megapixels.

The iPhone is available to pre-order online starting September 14, prices start at $199 for a 16GB, $299 for 32GB and $399 for the 64GB model.
