Fall Guys has been a massive success on both PS4 and PC, so why isn’t it also on Xbox One and mobile like other battle royale games? While there has been some speculation, one Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout dev is setting the record straight when talking about the game’s future plans.

Fall Galls designer Joe Walsh recently sat down to talk about the online game during the Talk Guys podcast. According to Walsh, Mediatonic, the studio behind Fall Guys, has no current plans to port the game over to Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, or mobile platforms. Instead of expanding too quickly, the team wants to make sure that everything is perfect on the current platforms of choice before even thinking about moving beyond that.

This is a smart move to make. A lot of studios, especially those with AAA publishers attached, have made the mistake on capitalizing on potential success too quickly, therefore rushing the process and cheapening what’s being offered. Instead, the studio here is aiming to continue building “community trust” in a way with their fans where should other moves happen, their fan-base will know it’s a good decision versus feeling abandoned.

This move especially makes sense given the rocky launch this game had, especially on PlayStation 4, something that Medatonic was very careful to be transparent about with players as they quickly rolled out fixes as they were ready. Since this, Fall Guys has skyrocketed to a top-selling game and the most downloaded PS Plus title of all time.

At the end of the day, Walsh says that they are still in a community-building phase and until that is at a place that they feel is complete, the idea of porting to more platforms just isn’t at the highest priority right now. While in the long run this is a great strategy, Walsh says that his team isn’t blind to the fact that in the immediate future this decision will have ramifications. Still, this is about trust with the players and they’re really setting a new standard in the industry on care and dedication to their player-base.
