GSC Game World Shares New Teaser Video for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2

It’s not much, but it’s something.

A gameplay teaser for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 went live on the Xbox YouTube channel on January 15, while a written update from GSC Game World was also shared on the Xbox blog. The teaser video is kept brief at a little under a minute in length, but it’s more than enough to get us even more excited for the game’s release. Any update is a good update, right?

GSC Game World Shares New Teaser Video for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2

Nearly 6 months have passed since the debut trailer for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was shown as part of the Xbox Games Showcase back in July of 2020. Now, we have another trailer to analyze that shows gameplay from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2.

Adding insight into this trailer, GSC Game World provided a status update in regards to the ongoing development of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 on the Xbox Blog. In the post from GSC Game World, it’s noted that the name of the game’s protagonist is Skif.

“Fast-paced changes of scenery, ominous landscapes and the ever-present feeling of an inevitable danger. You’re seeing this world through the eyes of a stalker named Skif — remember the codename, you will hear it a lot. Following the steps of its predecessors, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 introduces a completely new main protagonist. His actions will shape the new grand chapter in the history of the Zone.”

The blog post goes on to give a breakdown of the gameplay trailer in which the protagonist, Skif, explores the ruins of a school outside of Pripyat.

“The short scene takes place in the ruined school on the outskirts of the dead town of Pripyat. That’s an extremely dangerous place, and nobody would like to be here on their will. Still, the place doesn’t seem completely abandoned: there is a freshly started fire with a guitar nearby. However, Skif hardly has time to acknowledge that: he seems in a hurry. It looks like an inevitable danger is following him.

And here it is: an emission. A signature part of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, a powerful release of the anomalous energy from the center of the Zone. Emission happens from time to time and it’s extremely dangerous: it can kill you in the blink of an eye. When a stalker notices a start of emission, they should hide immediately and wait for the end of it, hoping they can get through. So that’s why Skif is in a hurry: he is certainly looking for cover in the nearby building.

The situation is far from safe, though: the building is half-ruined, and the PDA doesn’t seem to work: the signal is lost. All things considered, it’s easy not to notice someone hiding in the shadows. He does look familiar, though…”

As intriguing as the text description of the trailer is, we can’t help but remain stunned by how incredible the gameplay itself looks.

GSC Game World mentions in the blog post that development is “progressing smoothly” and that they’re working to “deliver the product of the highest quality possible on every platform it’s announced for” with the Xbox Series X | S praised for their fast SSDs, RTX support, and 4K resolution on the Series X.

Even better for Xbox owners, GSC Game World confirms that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will be available via Xbox Game Pass day one of its release. A set release date has yet to be announced, though it’s possible we may hear more over the summer. This is entirely based on our speculation, not on anything shared by GSC Game World.

With the game’s debut trailer appearing during an Xbox Showcase last July, it’d be fitting for another trailer to show up in another Xbox Showcase this summer. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for something like this, and we’ll be sure to update you as soon as new information about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is provided.

Until then, be sure to check out the new gameplay trailer embedded below, and head over to the Xbox Blog to read the full update from GSC Game World in regards to the progress being made on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2’s development.
