Fortnite v3.5 Update Brings Back 50v50 Mode and Adds LMGs

Double XP weekend also kicks off today in Fortnite Battle Royale.

Epic Games pushed a new content update for Fortnite earlier today, adding a new weapon and LTM to Fortnite Battle Royale. Fortnite Update v3.5 is a bit shorter than previous updates, but the update still has some noteworthy new features that are worth mentioning, namely the highly-anticipated light machine gun and the return of 50v50 mode. You can check out the full patch notes for Update v3.5.2 to see the full list of changes in today’s patch.

50v50 V2 LTM

One of the biggest features of today’s update is the return of the 50v50 limited-time mode (LTM) in Fortnite Battle Royale. Aptly named 50v50 V2, the new LTM went live today and will be available for a limited time. The 50v50 V2 LTM basically turns Fortnite Battle Royale into team deathmatch, parsing players into two teams of 50. Profile stats are not tracked during 50v50, so don’t worry about this LTM affecting your squad stats.

In 50v50 mode, players are shuttled to the island inside one of two Battle Buses, which arrive facing one another on opposite sides of the map. The two teams then have ten minutes to loot their weapons and materials as the storm closes in. After the looting phase, players are free to fight the enemy team for five minutes, with another five minute phase for the storm to shrink to the end.

Farming rates are increased, and ammo spawn rates are doubled and tripled depending on where you look. Downed players also lose health more quickly (10 health per tick), so make sure you pick up your teammates quickly during 50v50 mode.

Double XP Weekend

Today’s update also marked the start of double XP weekend in Fortnite. Starting today, April 19, players can earn two times the experience while playing Fortnite Battle Royale. The double XP weekend will wrap up on Sunday, April 22, so this is a great time to level up your Battle Pass and complete weekly challenges in Fortnite.

Fortnite Light Machine Gun Update

Light Machine Guns

Fortnite Update v3.5 also introduced Light Machine Guns to Fortnite. LMGs come in Rare and Epic rarities in Battle Royale. Look for LMGs within treasure chests, vending machines, and on the ground as floor loot. Light Machine Guns use Medium ammo and their 100-round magazine takes five seconds to reload, so fire these weapons wisely.

The Week 9 Battle Pass challenges went live today in Fortnite Battle Royale as well, giving Battle Pass holders a new list of challenges to complete before the end of Season 3.
