Some nasty rumors were making their way around the Internet this weekend that Square Enix had gone ahead and canceled its long-in-the-works Final Fantasy Versus XIII, in favor of other projects. However, after a few days had passed, the company decided to address the matter and confirm that, in fact, it isn’t going away.
CEO Yoichi Wada tweeted on Monday evening, “It seems someone is spreading a false rumor about Versus being canceled.” However, he stated that he just exited “a regularly scheduled meeting for Versus,” and that “if you were to see the city etc. presented today, you wouldn’t be able to stand from surprise.” While that doesn’t state specifically when we can expect the game, it does indicate, at the very least, that it’s still happening.
We should know more about the project sometime in the months ahead, perhaps even at GamesCom next month or even the Tokyo Game Show. For now, though, rest at ease, RPG fans, it’s still coming. Sometime.
