16 teams will vie for the Stanley Cup in NHL playoffs set to begin soon, with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Chicago Blackhawks early favorites. EA Sports has simulated the playoffs already and have a cool victor in mind for this year’s Cup.
According to the games it simulated with its hockey game NHL 13, the New York Rangers will walk away with its latest Stanley Cup after a heated battle with the Chicago Blackhawks. It also states that Brad Richards will walk away with the Conn Smythe trophy, the second of his career.
A full breakdown of the results can be found at the official NHL 14 blog complete with screenshots and game-by-game breakdowns showing how each team fares and how the Blackhawks and Rangers get to the Finals. Now it is just a sim and the real playoffs can go pretty much any which way each year, but considering NHL 13 has a good bead on realistic hockey, don’t be surprised if things turn out this way.
Next year’s hockey sim from EA, NHL 14, will be skating its way to store shelves on September 10th for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. We’ll have a strategic preview soon.
