Dead by Daylight’s Newest Killer Will Hunt You Down with Skull Drones

Are you disappointed she's not a Terminator?

Dead by Daylight is an asymmetrical multiplayer horror game that pits four Survivors against one Killer. Some of these killers, like Freddy Krueger and Michael Myers, are the most iconic in the horror industry. But other killers are original, featuring unique character designs and interesting tool kits. And as of February 15, 2023, we finally get a look at Dead by Daylight’s newest original killer, The Skull Merchant.

Dead by Daylight’s Newest Killer Will Hunt You Down with Skull Drones

The Skull Merchant’s name was accidentally leaked by Behavior Interactive, Dead by Daylight’s developers, in the tags of a teaser YouTube video earlier this week. But today’s minute-long trailer gives us an idea of who The Skull Merchant is and her abilities.

What we can glean from this short trailer is that the Skull Merchant seems to be a skilled Hunter, specializing in finding her prey with drones crafted from the skulls of her victim. And it looks like her prey will be the twins Thalita Lyra and Renato Lyra, marking the first time that Dead by Daylight has released siblings in a DLC.

While none of the Survivor abilities have been shown (unless their ability is looking terrified and getting cornered), we’re able to see them surrounded by headless mannequins that have been scoured by claw marks. Claw marks that match The Skull Merchant’s weapons, two Wolverine-esque blades that extend out from The Skull Merchant’s hands.

Another prominent feature of this new killer is her bedazzled gas mask, which received a mixed reaction from players across Reddit and Twitter, many of whom were convinced that The Skull Merchant was going to be a robot. Some Twitter users have declared, “oh we’re EATINGGGGG”.

While other users have expressed their discontent,

“She somehow manages to look both generic and ridiculous at the same time. The diamanté-encrusted Phantom-of-the-Opera gas mask is just too much.”

We’ll likely have to wait until the PTB to see both The Skull Merchant’s and Lyra sibling’s abilities listed. But as someone who adores the original killers and survivors, I’m excited to see what Behavior Interactive will bring to the trials.
