Players Are Petitioning to Save Heroes of the Storm by Putting it on Steam

The Nexus will have a lot to catch up on.

Heroes of the Storm is Blizzard’s main product to compete with titles like Dota 2 and League of Legends in the MOBA wars that stemmed from Icefrog’s Dota custom game in Warcraft 3. While this has a long history, the main topic of today is how there are still thousands of active players and even an active esports scene in Heroes of the Storm, and Blizzard hasn’t done anything with the game for years. However, since Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, HotS players were hopeful again. Now, they are forming a petition to get Microsoft to bring the game to Steam.

How Will Steam Save Heroes of the Storm?

Steam is one of the biggest and most powerful video game platforms ever created — and it is not even close. It has over 130+ million monthly active users and makes every other platform look minuscule, except perhaps mobile platforms. Adding any game to the platform will surely gain thousands of new players, especially for a free-to-play game with a lot of history like Heroes of the Storm.

It is a perfect way to revitalize the dying MOBA from Blizzard. Steam has a good track record of helping games sell more. The platform has helped Square Enix boost Final Fantasy XV sales by more than one million copies in its first year. Sony has also seen massive successes with titles like Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and more selling millions of copies each on PC. The platform is just too big to pass up.

With Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 getting a big boost in sales through Steam – even if they already have their Battle.net desktop app, it does make sense that Heroes of the Storm will also benefit from it, and maybe even save the Nexus.

As a long-time fan of the game, I’d love to see the game lively again and play my Janitor Leoric or even see new characters spawn in the Nexus.

How to Sign the Petition to Get Heroes of the Storm on Steam

You can sign the Heroes of the Storm petition here. It might be a long shot since Microsoft has to make the decision, but seeing a petition like this gain traction will only give Blizzard some signs that it might be worth reviving Heroes of the Storm. They could even add some major content changes along with the release and make it a Heroes of the Storm expansion launch. I mean, we are already seeing some signs of life in the game with their updates.

Just take a look at Heroes of the Storm’s X page, formerly known as Twitter, as they occasionally announce some balancing changes and updates. Only time will tell if the game could see another influx of players, but it all starts from within.
