Celeste Devs Reveal New Game, Earthblade

Earthblade is the name of the next game from Celeste developer Extremely OK Games. The name of the game was shared today in a blog post from Maddy Thorson of Extremely OK Games along with a teaser poster from Pedro Medeiros and a small music clip from the game’s composer Lena Raine.

According to the blog post, the team isn’t ready just yet to share too much about the game or its story and is instead calling this announcement more of a “vibe reveal.” Despite that, it’s nice to know where the team is at with their next game which is being described as a “2D explor-action game in a seamless pixel art world.”

“We’ve debated back and forth how to talk about this game during development. While making Celeste, we basically tweeted out whatever interesting-looking thing we were working on day-to-day, when we were in the mood for sharing.

But an air of mystery lends itself particularly well to this project, so we’ve opted to save it all up for a big reveal that will hopefully blow your socks off,” the blog post explains.

“It’ll probably be a while before you get more information about Earthblade. When we finally do show it off, be sure to point your feet away from animals and small children, and prepare for your footwear to be blasted clean off your feet.

In the meantime, now you know the general vibe. Vibe reveal!”

The blog post also talks about how it took the team four prototypes before they got to Earthblade, and that it’s been over three years since the release of Celeste. Timing wise, the blog post is transparent about not knowing how long the development process for Earthblade will take.

All in all, the “vibe reveal” for Earthblade is really exciting, and we’re looking forward to hearing more about Earthblade as the team at Extremely OK Games works on it and gets to a point where they’re ready to share more about it.

Until then, we recommend reading through the full blog post about Earthblade, and checking out the teaser poster and soundtrack clip on the game’s website.
