With just two and a half months until its release in stores, Battlefield 4 is making good progress, with hundreds of thousands of players salivating over the new multiplayer features. However, it appears certain ones are being reserved for next-gen and PC play.
Electronic Arts confirmed through Engadget that Battlelog, the “second screen” experience where players interact with firefights using a tablet, will only be available for certain versions of the game – in this case, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Battlelog assistant producer Jesper Nielsen broke the news when speaking to Engadget about features. Although he didn’t explain why current-gen consoles aren’t getting the experience, it’ll be worth it to those who upgrade.
“Battlelog is powered by the web, and that has a lot of implications. There are a lot of different things you can do, things you can do faster, rather than building stuff in native code,” explained Nielsen.
The service will also bring other benefits. “It’s going to be a lot easier for us to actually update things from the in-game Battlelog than would otherwise be the case. You’d have to do patches normally; here we can actually do things almost by the flick of a finger,” he said.
Battlefield 4 releases on October 29th for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, and later in the year for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
