Battlefield 4: Complete Class Guide

A detailed breakdown of the Assault, Engineer, Support and Recon classes.
This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

Players choosing the appropriate class often decide success on the battlefield. These choices should not only reflect your playing style, but also the needs of your team and the circumstances of the situation. If you lean more towards infantry based combat on close quarters maps, the Assault kit might be the best option. However, if you enjoy more vehicle based combat on some of the larger maps, the Engineer kit might be more appropriate. Have a look at our complete class breakdown below to help ensure you make the right choice to lead your team to victory.

Assault Class

If you’re not sure which class to use, Assault isn’t a bad option. Assault rifles are typically excellent at any range, offer great rates of fire and top notch damage output. Engineer Class

Being an engineer is all about blowing things up… sort of. Your goal is to help keep friendly vehicles on the battlefield while simultaneously destroying the enemy vehicles. The Engineer class no longer has exclusive rights to the carbines, which have been replaced by the PDW family. Don’t worry though, all classes in Battlefield 4 can now use the carbines. Use the Engineer class most effectively on large maps with plenty of vehicles. Of course, this means you will want to equip a carbine, rather than a PDW as your primary weapon.

Support Class

The Support class is for the soldier that takes pride in doing the little things to help keep the team rolling. With exclusive rights to the LMG family, Support soldiers will want to focus on laying down suppressive fire and dropping Ammo Boxes at every opportunity. Not designed for running and gunning, players in this class should focus on setting up in strategic locations. Think Rush defense here.

With carbines being available to any class as well as the addition of C4, players rocking the Recon class are more deadly than ever. Before gearing up, consider what gadgets will best suit the needs of your squad.
