You can now use Android on Nintendo Switch ... at least unofficially.

Modders can pretty much do anything they put their minds too and that includes putting Android on Nintendo Switch consoles. Though modding the Switch isn’t as easy as other platforms, it can be done and for those looking to enjoy non-official entertainment, there is now an Android ROM that is ready to be utilized.

XDA-Developers forum user ‘Langer Hans‘ has unveiled their custom Android ROM for the Nintendo Switch this week under the dub of LineageOS 15.1. According to the mod creator, “This is the first publicly available Android ROM for the Nintendo Switch. Based on the Nvidia Shield TV builds it brings a smooth and powerful Android experience to your Switch in both handheld and docked mode.”

For those familiar with Nvidia, the modder mentioned that their ROM was heavily inspired by the Shield TV set-top box tech that Nvidia uses, making it a technology that can be easily recognized by some.

It’s important to remember that while the prospect of unlocking the Switch’s full potential may be enticing, running this program on the hybrid console isn’t official and therefore there are certain risks involved. Also, which this part should be obvious, downloading emulations of sellable games is illegal.
