5 Reasons You Need to Play Watch Dogs

A side of Chicago you never knew existed.

With Watch Dogs set to release on all major platforms May 27th, we felt the time had come to do a bit of research and see what exactly this title has to offer. To say we walked away impressed would be a gross understatement. With a five-year development cycle that beats Grand Theft Auto 5, Ubisoft has big plans in store for Chicago. On that note, here are five reasons you need to experience this open-world hacking game.

Real Deal Chicago

Playing a game in a real life environment adds a level of immersion that can’t be beat. We still recall two of our friends navigating the streets of Los Santos in Grand Theft Auto 5, reaching their destinations from memory as we set waypoints on the map. More recently, there’s inFAMOUS: Second Son, which had players scaling the Space Needle and traveling through the streets of Seattle. Watch Dogs, however, will take place in the streets of Chicago. Said to feature many historical landmarks players will recognize, it’s sure to provide that X Factor that will put this game over the top.

Sharp Looking Graphics Bring Chicago to Life

Alright, score one for PC players when it comes to the graphics in Watch Dogs. As it turns out, Ubisoft worked closely with NVIDIA to ensure the game is one of the most beautiful you can find, utilizing the HBAO+ technology that focuses on more realistic shadowing. While the PlayStation 4 version of the game is sure to be gorgeous in its own right, few can argue that the power of PC graphics is a step above the rest of the pack.

No matter what platform you play on, you can bet Watch Dogs will provide you with more eye candy than you’re used to. Check out the NVIDIA Technologies trailer below.

Ubisoft Delayed Watch Dogs to Make it Great

You might ask yourself why a delayed game is a good thing. Well, there are two main reasons that we see as positives. First, delaying a game extends its development, which means there’s more time to iron out the bugs and polish things up. Second, it means the studio is willing to admit the game wasn’t good enough, and will use this extra time to improve its quality. While Ubisoft first planned to release Watch Dogs late 2013, the additional six months of development is sure to pay off.

You Can Hack Anything

After the whole Heartbleed debacle that had people across the globe changing their passwords, this is the perfect time for a game like Watch Dogs. Development began five years ago, but today it promises to be more relevant than ever.

Scary stuff aside, you can hack anything and anyone. Each person in the game has a unique back story. Players should still use caution, however. Cross the wrong person and you might find a bounty on your head. Still, digging into virtual people’s lives never seemed more appealing.

Boss… I Need a Month Off

That’s right, when Watch Dogs drops you’ll want to clear your schedule. The creative director of the game stated that the story will take about 35 to 40 hours. Assuming you don’t need to sleep, eat or spend time with the important people in your life, that’s still upwards of two days. At a time when it’s become normal to see four-to-five hour campaigns, this should be enough content to keep players busy. As for booking the time off, a game this long means we’re sure to celebrate the first day of June by exploring Chicago with a controller in our hands.
