Not sure what that epilogue means? We help you uncover the truth behind Prey’s somewhat confusing ending.

If you manage to beat Prey anytime soon, then you’re going to find yourself watching a fairly intriguing epilogue. We’ll go into a bit more detail for now, but let’s just say that the epilogue itself may prove a but confounding for some players. It should be noted that this article will contain spoilers, so if you haven’t beaten Prey just yet, come back at a later time. If you have completed the game, and want to know more about what just happened, then scroll past the image below and let’s get started. We’ll also update this article as we learn more about the ending.

Prey Ending Explained

You’ve done it. You managed to fight your way across the Talos 1 station and take out the Apex Typhon in the process. Now, no matter how you decide to take care of the Typhon, by destroying the Talos 1 Station or just using the Nullwave Device to destroy the Typhon and save the station, you awaken in a mysterious place, with several people around you.

The people surrounding you are your brother, Alex Yu, as well as four Operators speaking with the voices of Mikhaila Ilyushin, Dr. Igwe, Sarah Elazar, and Danielle Sho. In this epilogue you are debriefed, and each of the “people” surrounding you rate your performance throughout the game regarding what they consider “important decisions”.

Did you kill the cook imposter? Did you murder any crewmates in your way? Did you make use of any of the Typhon Neuromods? What did you do about the Typhon outbreak? Did you destroy Talos 1, destroy the Typhon, or just run away using Alex’s escape pod?

Each decision you make throughout the game can affect the ending, and every life that you take or spare could mean the difference between life and death. It’s during this scene that you realize that you are not in fact Morgan Yu. Instead, you are a Typhon, which has just been tested to see how well you will interact with humans.

Based on your choices throughout the game, Alex and the four Operators will decide whether you should live or die. If they choose to let you live, you can take Alex’s hand, and help usher in a new age of Typhon and human coexistence. This ending is the best possible outcome in the game.

If the choices that you make lead to your death, then you have one final opportunity to satiate your bloodlust and kill Alex Yu. This is, obviously, considered the worst outcome for the game, but that doesn’t make it any less interesting.

But what does it all mean? Was Morgan Yu ever a real person? Yes, he (or she) was. In fact, the entire experiment that you’ve just undergone is all based around Morgan’s memories of the events. Unfortunately, Morgan wasn’t able to stop the Typhon threat, so Alex and the four Operators have been running tests on the Typhon to figure out if the two species can exist together in harmony. Of course, even if that proves to be the case, it’s probably only a matter of time before something goes wrong and the world is once more in danger.

For now, that’s all we know about the ending. As we complete the game more, and mess around with other sequences throughout the story, we’ll be sure to update this article with any additional information that we may find to either backup or even disprove our theory. For now, though, you can head back to our Prey game hub, where we have plenty of other guides like how to get your first gun, and even a guide that will show you how to unlock every workstation, so you can read all the emails that we’ve mentioned here.
