Pokemon Go – How to Evolve Eevee Into Vaporeon, Jolteon and Flareon

Find out how to get the Eevee evolution you most desire in Pokemon Go!
This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

When you want to evolve Eevee in Pokemon Go, there’s a specific strategy to get the evolution you want, whether it’s Vaporeon, Jolteon or Flareon. Up until now many Pokemon Trainers thought the evolution was random, but it’s been discovered that there’s a fairly easy way to get the evolution you want. Of note, it’s recommended that you hold off on evolving a low CP Eevee more than once until you have enough candy to get to the third evolution.

To evolve Eevee into Vaporeon, Jolteon or Flareon, all you have to do is rename your Pokemon to a specific term listed in the chart below. Once you’ve edited the name of your Eevee accordingly, confirm the rename (tap OK), then restart the Pokemon Go app to make sure the name change was saved to the servers. When you get back into Pokemon Go, simply use Candy to evolve Eevee and you’ll get the desired evolution that corresponds to the name you selected.

Pyro Flareon

Sparky Jolteon

As mentioned earlier, you should wait to evolve an Eevee to the second evolution until you’re at least a level 15 Pokemon Trainer. Once you catch an Eevee at this level or above, the CP will be considerably higher than an Eevee you may have caught at a lower level. This makes the evolutions much more impactful and you’ll get a better Vaporeon, Jolteon or Flareon.
