Wolfenstein: The New Order might be one of the best campaigns to come out since last year’s release of the next generation consoles. No matter what you look for in a single-player title, you’re bound to find a great deal of value while fighting Nazis as William “BJ” Blazkowicz. If all of that wasn’t enough, the game holds many secrets and Easter eggs waiting to be uncovered. While we were one of the first to showcase the Escape from Castle Wolfenstein Easter Egg when the game released, there are more popping up each and every day.
The Beatles
There is more than one reference to The Beatles in Wolfenstein: The New Order, the first of which takes place during Chapter 3 – A New World.
After fighting your way through the Nazi checkpoints with Anya and her grandparents, you’ll then have to endure an interrogation from Engel and her human pet, Bubi. Once she allows you to proceed, leave the train car and take your first available left. You’ll see what looks like a house keeping area to the left. Head down there and at the far end you’ll find the Easter egg laying on the counter.
The second reference to The Beatles comes during Chapter 5 – A New Home. While completing the objectives, you’ll have to enter Caroline’s bedroom. Once you’re inside, you’ll find the album by Die Kafer titled, “Mond, Mond, Ja, Ja.” From that point on, you can open up your Extras in the main menu, then Collectibles, then Recordings to access the record. Interestingly enough, the name Die Kafer means The Beatles when translated from German to English.
Quake 3
This one is a little bit easier to spot since it presents itself during a cut scene. During the opening part of Chapter 6 – London Nautica, Bobby Bram drives Blazkowicz to his objective in downtown London. If you look at the keychain dangling from the ignition, you might recognize it as the rocket launcher from the game Quake 3. If you’re wondering about the connection, id Software not only developed Quake 3, but also had a hand in the Wolfenstein series. In fact, Wolfenstein: The New Order was developed with the id Tech 5 engine, originally built by id Software.
Fallout 3
This Easter Egg can be viewed in Chapter 7 – A Mystery, Chapter 9 – New Tactics and lastly in Chapter 15 – Under Attack.
If you exit the hideout and go into the hangar, you can see two very large vault doors at either end with the number 101 written on them. This is a reference to Vault 101 from Fallout 3. Again, if you’re unsure of the connection, Fallout 3 was published by Bethesda Softworks, as was Wolfenstein: The New Order. While you can’t actually do anything with the vault, the idea certainly gets us pumped for Fallout 4.
Super Mario Power Star
We go from The Beatles to Quake 3, mix in a little Fallout 3 and we end with… Mario? While this one is easy to overlook, it’s also easy to access once you know it’s there. You can find it any time when you are in your hideout by going up to the bedroom of Max Haas. You should see the Power Stars laying near the foot of his bed. Like most Easter eggs, you can’t pick them up or interact with them in any way, but it still holds a special place in our hearts.
We’ll be sure to keep our eyes peeled for more secrets in the days and weeks to come. For now, click on the video below to see exactly how you can find each of these Easter eggs.
