The Escape from Tarkov Post-Release Wipes Might Not Be Enough For Players To Start From Scratch Again

No escaping Tarkov this time.

With Escape from Tarkov’s launch, players finally have the chance to fully escape Tarkov and experience the game’s complete storyline—after almost a decade.

But now there’s a new problem arising: players don’t know what to look forward to anymore, as previous wipes have always revolved around content patches expanding the story through quests, new maps, and map expansions.

The Suburbs and the Town are still planned maps in the Tarkov universe, but there’s still no news about them. However, Nikita Buyanov, BattleState Games’ Game Director, has teased what’s next for the upcoming seasonal wipe, and it doesn’t look enticing enough to come back and start a new playthrough.

Everything We Know So Far About Escape from Tarkov’s Seasonal Wipes

Nikita Buyanov has teased some changes coming to Tarkov’s seasonal wipe:

  • Seasonal modifiers like flea market restrictions and scav behavior changes.
  • Lore-based seasons.
  • Unique seasonal quests.
  • Player modifiers.

Seasonal modifiers are nothing new to Escape from Tarkov. Flea Market restrictions have been tested extensively, including no flea market, player-level restrictions on items, flea market player-level restrictions, and a delayed flea market. The same goes for scav changes.

Unique seasonal quests also show up in events and wipes before. These are all changes that are considered minor and mostly supplement big additions like extended maps, new maps, interactive loot, inertia, the BTR, and other unique game mechanics.

The biggest addition that could have some potential is lore-based seasons. They could introduce new bosses, faction wars, and maybe new map mechanics as well. However, with these big changes, Nikita usually teases them early, so there’s a possibility that it could just be more questlines tied to new lore, which might not persuade players to reset.

Resets or Wipes Becoming Harder and Harder Might Prevent Some Players from Playing Seasonal Wipes

Players who played and progressed through the massive main questline added during launch will have to think twice about starting fresh and doing it all again. Those who have finished the main questline and escaped Tarkov have accomplished an impressive feat, which probably takes the average player around 400-500+ hours to complete. That is an insane grind players will go through again on reset, which is already harder than going for KAPPA or getting prestige.

If the new season doesn’t blow you away, there’s no reason to go through all that grind again, especially since your non-seasonal character is still playable and also separate from the seasonal wipe (dividing the playerbase again).

According to Nikita Buyanov, more information will be revealed soon. But the community is still eagerly waiting for any major content updates to the game. Since we are so used to knowing what’s coming months before a new patch or wipe, like the Lighthouse or Streets of Tarkov releases, we don’t really know what content to expect from the seasonal wipe.

Is there going to be a map rework? A new boss? Massive changes to loot, traders, or any economy-related features? What would make you reset and play the seasonal wipe?
