Summer 2015 is the calm before the virtual storm, a time where people finish video games that released earlier in the year before the holiday rush. With July and August looming, make sure you crank the AC and play the following games this summer before Fallout 4, Star Wars: Battlefront and Super Mario Maker come out.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
CD Projekt RED’s open world fantasy adventure delivers ultimate bang for your buck with more than 70 hours of content. Playing as witcher Geralt of Rivia, you scour the Northern Realms defeating the Wild Hunt army, and when you need a break from the story campaign, feel free to romance the ladies or spend time mastering Gwent, The Witcher 3’s collectible card game. Still looking for more? Earn more cash by completing Monster Contracts, and set off in search of the best gear. By the time you see everything this title has to offer, Amazon will already have Fallout 4 on your doorstep.
Mortal Kombat X
Maybe you need something faster paced. Mortal Kombat X is the perfect choice, pitting you against a variety of famous faces and newcomers in epic fights to the death. Scorpion, Sub-Zero and even Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th films line up to decapitate, disembowel and blow up their opponents in the nastiest Fatalities in MK history! Pick apart the computer, or mash buttons alongside a friend in local and online play. It won’t take long to see all of the Fatalities. Unlocking everything in the Krypt, though, is a whole other matter.

Dying Light
This open world action game feels like Mirror’s Edge mixed with zombies. Explore an infected Middle Eastern city using death-defying parkour moves, scaling up walls and jumping between rooftops. Rummage through abandoned apartments and stores in search of loot, then take advantage of the crafting system to create exploding ninja stars, Molotov cocktails and other useful items while at the same time scavenging for weapons. You know what’s better than a machete? A machete that electrocutes a zombie right before you cut off its head. Throw in excessive gore and a day/night cycle that pits you against super zombies after the sun goes down, and Dying Light is right up there with the best games of 2015.
Bloodborne
Â
If you feel today’s games are too easy, wait until you play Bloodborne. This PS4 exclusive comes by way of From Software, the same team behind the brutally difficult Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2. Bloodborne is nowhere near as punishing, but you’ll struggle against the game’s enemies, the majority of which only need a couple of hits to send your character back to the main hub world, Hunter’s Dream. Constant leveling and weapon swapping are essential to survive the evil city of Yharnam, and a majority of the bosses will give you nightmares, particularly the Blood-Starved Beast and Rom, the Vacuous Spider. Expect to die.
Destiny
Â
Technically, Bungie released Destiny in September 2014, but The Taken King expansion arrives on September 15, and there’s a good chance you need to level up like crazy in anticipation of plundering the Dreadnaught ship and then defeating the toughest enemy to date, Oryx. Additionally, you now have time to reach level 30 while finishing the previous DLC missions from The Dark Below and House of Wolves. Do all of this before September, then dive into The Taken King to learn the three new subclasses. You may also want to grab a few cans of Red Bull.

Splatoon
Â
The fact that Nintendo’s new million-seller features adorable squid characters reminds us of summer, but without the fishy smell. Beyond the cuteness is a fun third person shooter with a twist. Instead of shooting other players, though you’re certainly free to do so, the primary goal involves covering the map with more ink than the other team. Craziness ensues, with both sides splattering the floor with a variety of cool weapons and gadgets. Afterwards, they return to the brightly colored hub world to buy weapons from a talking hermit crab. Enjoy.

Lego Jurassic World
Â
Jurassic World stomped its way to box office records, and now you can relive the experience with the newest Lego game. The best part? You get to play through all four Jurassic films and control every character, including Ian Malcolm, Alan Grant and John Hammond. On top of that, the game lets you break things as a variety of dinosaurs, like the T-Rex, a Triceratops and Jurassic World’s meanest creature, the Indominus Rex.
