Does the Dead Space Remake Use Denuvo? – Answered

Them pirates trying to steal my space!

Dead Space Remake is an exciting prospect for just about everyone interested in the horror genre. The original 2008 game is a classic, and from what we’ve seen, the Remake revitalizes it well for modern audiences. It’s a great thing to see, especially with how many remasters and remakes tend to be a flop compared to the original. For some people though, one particular addition might be a little concerning. Here’s whether the Dead Space Remake uses Denuvo.

Is Denuvo Used for the Dead Space Remake?

Looking at the Steam page, you may be led to believe that it doesn’t use Denuvo. You’d be mistaken though, as it looks like it uses the technology as evidenced by the game’s files. It’s a little odd for EA not to have it listed given that it’s something that can be included on Steam (and frankly should always be) but isn’t here.

For those unaware, Denuvo Anti-Tamper is a bit of anti-piracy technology that prevents people from pirating the game. Due partially to online-only functionality, this makes it so most people who would’ve pirated will become impatient and buy the game, thus making the team sales they wouldn’t have otherwise made. This is great for publishers but sometimes can affect consumers who have never even considered pirating a game. In the past, some games with Denuvo Anti-Tamper have had performance issues that disappear as soon as the technology is removed. While we can’t confirm this ourselves, many have complained.

Ideally, Dead Space Remake isn’t affected by Denuvo being installed. Still, it’s something worth keeping in mind if you’re the type to care about that sort of thing. We’ll be sure to update this article if the software gets removed or changed in any way publicly available.
