Wii U, 3DS connectivity key to New Super Smash Bros.

Nintendo Brawler takes new direction

Masahiro Sakurai holds the directing role for the upcoming title and has expressed his feeling that the series would not be fresh if Nintendo were to simply expand on the last game’s content.

“There is a certain dead end we come to if we just expand the volume of the game,” Sakurai explained to IGN. “I intend to change direction a little as we go.

“The key to that’s going to be its dual support for 3DS/Wii U.”

News of the ever-popular series coming to the 3DS and Wii U came to light during last year’s E3 conference, though development is just starting: Sakurai has been hard at work on 3DS shooter Kid Icarus: Uprising.

“I’m really just getting started on this so it’s going to take time, but I’ll come up with something that uses that link as the game’s central axis, so I hope you’re looking forward to it,” he added.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl was a massive success after its launch in 2008, and to this day is still one of the best-selling titles on the Wii. It features a map editor, a fully-fledged single-player, a huge character roster and, of course, a fantastically fun battle mode.
