The Lunar New Year event is right around the corner in Pokemon GO and the face of the festivities happens to be Darumaka, the Zen Charm Pokemon. We don’t get to see this Fire-type too often in the wild and many Trainers are likely wondering if there is a shiny variant that can be caught.

Most of the entries in Pokemon GO do have a shiny form at this point in the game, but there is still a good handful that is reserved for big events, such as the Lunar New Year. To save you some time in your own shiny hunts, we’ll discuss whether the shiny Darumaka is possible to get in Pokemon GO.

Pokemon GO – Can Darumaka be Shiny?

As you complete your challenges in the Lunar New Year event and search the wild for new catches, you can rest easy knowing that Darumaka has a shiny form in Pokemon GO. Instead of a completely different color variation, Darumaka has a lighter red tint that looks almost pink. It’s nothing special but it’s always nice to have a shiny one.

During the Lunar New Year event, there will be no bonus to shiny encounters within Pokemon GO. That means the general odds of finding a shiny Darumaka will be about 1 in 500 within the wild. With nearly a week to encounter as many of these little red Pokemon as possible, it’s not out of the question to find a shiny.

When you go out on a search for a shiny, the best practice is to walk around populated areas with plenty of PokeStops. You also want to make sure that you’re using Lure Modules and Incense Lures. Within no time, you’ll have tons of Darumakas spawning around you that you can quickly encounter to see if you got lucky with the color.
