All Games Featured in Sonic Origins
Sonic Origins brings completely remastered versions of all classic Sonic games from the SEGA Genesis (Mega Drive) and SEGA CD. The following titles are included:
- Sonic the Hedgehog (1991) – The well know original from Genesis.
- Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (1992) – A sequel that is considered to be one of the best classic 2D platformers of all time.
- Sonic CD (1993) – Fan favorite SEGA CD / MEGA CD exclusive.
- Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles (1994) – Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles combined into one game (there is no way to play them separate here).
All the games in the compilation are available in two modes:
- Classic Mode: 4:3 original, with all the classic gameplay and systems as they were in the early 90s.
- Anniversary Mode which brings brand new widescreen adaptations of all games, the drop dash move from Sonic Mania, and the removal of the lives system.
All Playable Characters in Sonic Origins
In Sonic Origins, you can play as Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles in every game, with the exception of Knuckles in Sonic CD. Guess his abilities would break the game. Also, too bad Amy and Metal Sonic are not playable – maybe in some DLC or Plus version down the road?
Bonus Features in Sonic Origins
The new Story Mode in Sonic Origins merges all four games into one where players move from one sequel to another that are now connected by brand new animated cutscenes (Sonic CD is canon, yo!). Unfortunately, this mode can only be played as Sonic, but you can use other characters in many other modes in the game such as:
- Mission mode – Specific trophy/achievement-like set of objectives.
- Mirror mode – Reverses the level layouts for a brand new challenge.
- Boss rush – As the name suggests, a mode where you face off with bosses only in consecutive order.
- Blue Spheres – More of those 3D spherical special stages from Sonic 3 & Knuckles if you can get enough of them.
- Museum – Collection of artwork, music, and videos, including the brand new cutscenes.
Players who pre-ordered the game will receive 100 coins used for unlocking stuff in Museum mode or additional tries for Special Stages. Pre-order bonuses include new music tracks from a few other classic Sonic games such as Sonic Spinball (1993), Knuckles’ Chaotix (1995), and Sonic 3D Blast (1996), and a set of harder missions. If you missed the pre-order window for Sonic Origins, you can still get all of the above through paid DLC.
