Yacht Club Games Launch Kickstarter for New Project, Mina the Hollower
As for what kind of game Mina the Hollower will be, it’s described as a love letter to handheld gaming with its nostalgic 8-bit aesthetic. In the official description on the Kickstarter page, Yacht Club Games notes:
“Mina the Hollower is a bone-chilling action adventure featuring classic gameplay and an 8-bit aesthetic in the style of Game Boy Color, refined for the modern era.
Smooth 60fps action combat, a world full of mystery and horror, and top-down adventuring combine in a mix that may remind you of classic titles like Castlevania, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, or even Bloodborne.
Whip foes, burrow through the ground, and explore a pixel-perfect world in Mina the Hollower, a brand new game from the developers who brought you Shovel Knight! You won’t want to miss this harrowing, yet heartwarming tale!”
The Kickstarter page also goes over story details and information about the game’s main character, Mina.
“You play as Mina, a whip-wielding Hollower and visionary inventor. She receives a troubling letter from Baron Lionel, her longtime patron and the overseer of Tenebrous Isle.
Mina’s advances in Spark Technology brought power to the Isle for the first time many years ago, ushering in newfound prosperity for its citizens. But now, the Spark Generators have gone out, and foul play is suspected.
You will use a myriad of weapons and oddball trinkets to vanquish the monsters thwarting Mina’s objective. Along the way, you’ll unearth the deep, dark secrets concealed beneath the island’s newfound prosperity.”
Yacht Club Games also states on the Kickstarter page that Mina the Hollower was inspired by Gothic Horror popularized in the 1700s, with many iconic horror stories coming from this era like Frankenstein and Dracula.
Overall, the project sounds exciting and there’s a lot shown on the Kickstarter campaign already, though we’re eager to see even more from the game in the future.
