Masahiro Sakurai Talks About What’s Next In New Interview

In an interview on Famitsu magazine, which was published on the website by Ryokutya, we learned quite a bit about what Sakurai plans for his future.

The article, which was translated to English by the folks over at Siliconera talks about Sakurai’s plans not that Smash ultimate is behind him.

In the interview, Skurai states “I am not thinking of it every time. However, I can’t say with certainty that this would be the end of Smash.”

While Sakurai doesn’t know if it’s the end of Smash, he’s certainly been a crucial part of its success.

He goes on to say “If the series were to continue, I have to talk with Nintendo and have a debate on whether it will succeed or not. I must think about this topic seriously.”

After Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it’ll be hard to try and make anything of that caliber again. It’s amazing that the game even exists at all, so to expect Nintendo and Sakurai to do it all again would be a fool’s errand.

In his final Bi-weekly column for Famitsu, Sakurai said that he’s” not at liberty to say what he will do or create soon”, and continues saying “it may be even better if people end up forgetting about him, but he will be careful not to make himself fade out as is.”

It’s clear Sakurai wants to take time off and figure out what’s next if anything at all, and I think we should all stop asking Sakurai about Smash.
