If you’re new to The Elder Scrolls Online and are planning to dive headfirst into the Greymoor expansion, you may be wondering about cross-play. Does The Elder Scrolls Online Support Cross Platform Play?

Unfortunately, The Elder Scrolls Online does not support cross platform play between PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. Further, the game hosts separate servers for each platform, meaning you’ll only ever run into players that are on the same system as you are.

While this is certainly disappointing to many players, it’s not totally surprising for a couple of reasons. For starters, cross-play isn’t common-place in the gaming industry. Just recently it took a game as big as Fortnite to convince Sony to agree to play nice with others, and even then, it took a long time to make that happen.

However, as we move into a new console generation, maybe we will see the more games support cross platform play. Additionally, there is a big debate in the online gaming community about keyboard and mouse players having an advantage over players using a controller.

With The Elder Scrolls Online having a big focus on PvP, it seems like adding cross play might cause an unnecessary divide in the game’s community. So as it stands right now, it doesn’t look like The Elder Scrolls Online will be supporting cross platform play anytime soon.

However, this doesn’t mean that players cannot play with their friends, as ESO does support online play. Although, the process is a bit different depending on which platform you’re on. In the table below, we’ve broken down how to add a friend in The Elder Scrolls Online for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

PC:

Xbox One:

PlayStation 4:

-Open your Contacts menu

-Add your friend’s character name or UserID

-Select their name and send a friend request

-Open up the Guild menu

-Select a friend from your Xbox One friend’s list

-You can also add a friend in-game by approaching their character, selecting the menu, and choosing “Add as Friend”

-Open up the Guild menu

-Select a friend from your PlayStation 4 friend’s list

-You can also add a friend in-game by approaching their character, selecting the menu, and choosing “Add as Friend”

Once, you’ve added a friend to your list, you can easily do quests together or explore Skyrim by clicking on their name and selecting “Travel to Player.”

As long as they’re in the same region (NA vs. EU) and platform server as you, you should be good to go.
