A new expansion is on the horizon for Elder Scrolls Online players following the massive success that both Morrowind and Summerset saw. Now, players will be returning to Elsweyr and it’s not just dragons that players will encounter, but a deadly new class of Necromancers as well. Whether you’re fighting as a Necromancer, or as one, the latest ESO trailer shows off exactly what they are made of.

“The souls and corpses of the fallen are yours to command with the Necromancer, an all-new class coming with The Elder Scrolls Online: Elsweyr,” reads the latest video’s official description. “Raise relentless undead, encase yourself in impenetrable bone, and weave severed flesh back together with the power of Tamriel’s dark arts. With the Necromancer, death itself is a weapon, and you are its master.”

The dark arts that have been lurking in Tamriel for ages resurfaces and adds a new level of danger when it comes to exploring its open-world. “In broad strokes, necromancy is about the creative manipulation of the soul, or animus, which is one of the basic building blocks of life in Tamriel,” explains Leamon Tuttle, ESO’s Loremaster. “Necromancers use their power to cast spells, bind souls into service, and use lesser Daedric spirits to reanimate corpses.”

Necromancy, in all of its power, is still a very touchy subject in Tamriel, one dripping with controversy about whether or not it is a respectable practice or a dark art that is better left untouched. For those looking to dive right in, Necromancy requires a certain finesse, a subtly that requires patience and special attention to detail.

“We felt it was important to intertwine necromancy and Justice for much the same reason we put Justice in the game in the first place,” says Ed Stark, the team’s Lead Content Designer in charge of the Necromancer class and the Justice system. “Historically, necromancy has always been frowned-upon by Tamrielic society, and so, when some NPCs see an overtly necromantic act, they react with fear or aggression and report it for the crime it is.”

You can learn even more about Necromancers in the video above, as well as the latest blog post on the game’s official website right here.

As for the latest expansion, Elsweyr officially arrives in Elder Scrolls Online on June 4.
