Google to Reveal Gaming Project at GDC 2019

Invitations sent out by Google tease “all will be revealed” at an upcoming GDC keynote.

Google officially announced plans to reveal new details on their upcoming gaming project at this year’s Game Developers Conference (GDC). In the invitations sent out by Google, only a date, time, and location were provided rather than specifics on what exactly the company plans to unveil.

“All will be revealed at the Google Keynote. 10:00 a.m. on March 19, 2019. Find us in Moscone South, San Francisco.”

The invitations also includes a GIF of a vast, darkened hallway that pulls you towards the center before filling with white light. While the invitation and imagery have no trouble grabbing your attention, nothing is given away in regards to what Google has up its sleeve.

Based on various reports following the GDC invitations, Google may have plans to confirm a 2019 launch for project “Yeti” which pairs Google hardware with a subscription-based game streaming service. This suggestion was first presented in an article by The Information who note:

“The company is developing a subscription-based game streaming service that could work either on Google’s Chromecast or possibly a Google-made console still being developed, according to people with knowledge of the project.”

Of course, Google could also be expanding upon Project Stream which dropped back in October of 2018. Through Project Stream, games like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey can be streamed straight through the Google Chrome browser.

Whether Google drops a new streaming service during their GDC keynote on March 19, or updates to Project Stream, it’s clear that Google has big things planned in 2019!
