All That Glitters

If you’re reading this and nothing makes sense to you, worry not. You need to find the Stranger encounter titled “All That Glitters” before you can find the Jack Hall Gang treasure. To begin the encounter, you want to travel to Flatneck Station then carry on west. Eventually you’ll stumble upon a Stranger encounter overlooking the Dakota River with Diablo Ridge to the west. When you’re done talking to the chap, you have the option to purchase the first Jack Hall Gang Treasure Map off him.

The first treasure map is all the way back near your first camp at Horseshoe Overlook. You’re specifically looking for Caliban’s Seat, which is just south of Valentine – the first town you explore after the prologue. Caliban’s Seat is marked on the map so throw down a marker and when you get there, you’re looking for a camp on top of a rock – you can easily ascend by approaching from the east side. As you approach the camp, take the path to the right. The terrain gets fairly unstable but carry on clambering over the rocks and eventually, you’ll find a location to search. This will reward you with the second Jack Hall Gang Treasure Map and potentially a Pearl Necklace.

For the second treasure map, you need to go to the very top of the map. You’re looking for Cotorra Springs – the area patrolled by the Legendary Wolf, north of Fort Wallace. There’s a field with a number of rock formations scattered about – you want to search the pile of rocks that creates the square with the three natural springs. Check the map in-game to understand what side it’s on. Search them and you’ll receive the third Jack Hall Gang Treasure Map, along with a Pearl Necklace, but only if you didn’t get one at the last location.

Finally, you want to go east to O’creagh’s Run. This is an enormous lake with an island right in the middle, close to the location of the legendary Bharati Grizzly Bear. You need to reach that island, which is easier said than done. There’s no boats around so while you could swim across, you’re inviting hostile marine life to chomp at your feet. Instead, we’d recommend taking your horse across the lake, just keep an eye on its stamina. When you get there, search a rock on the south side of the island and you’ll find two Gold Bars. These can be sold at a Fence for a very high price, a fine reward for some treasure hunting.
