To complete the Open For Business challenge, you need to correctly identify the ghost present at Nell’s Diner three times. The overall objective for all challenge modes is the same, but each one comes with unique modifiers and requirements.

What is the Open For Business Challenge in Phasmophobia?

The Open For Business challenge is a special trial that’s designed to introduce you to the Nell’s Diner map. The focus of this one is the location, Nell’s Diner, rather than specific ghost, equipment, or player changes.

Open For Business Challenge Rules in Phasmophobia

The modifiers for the Open For Business challenge are nothing too difficult to deal with, especially if you’ve previously tackled other trials. They’re worth knowing before you head inside, though, as they’ll still affect the entire contract. Here are all of the important rules to know.

  • Map: Nell’s Diner
  • Starting sanity: 100 percent
  • Sanity drain speed: 200 percent
  • Sanity medication restoration: 30 percent
  • Setup time: None
  • Player speed: 100 percent
  • Ghost speed: 100 percent
  • Weather: Windy or Blood Moon
  • Fuse box state: Starts off, but is marked on the map
  • Cursed Possession: Random

In the Open For Business challenge, you’re given all Tier III items to work with, which means you have access to the best of the best. This should generally make your investigation easier, although some of the fancier gear can be a bit tricky to learn at first, so you may need to practice a bit.

  • Tier III: Spirit Box, Incense, Photo Camera, UV Light, Thermometer, Sound Recorder, Head Gear, Sanity Medication, Motion Sensor, Parabolic Microphone, Sound Sensor, Firelights, EMF Reader, DOTS Projector, Flashlight, Video Camera, Igniters, Salt, Ghost Writing Books, and Crucifixes.

Open For Business Challenge Tips in Phasmophobia

Challenge modes are designed to push you to your limit, so you might need a bit of extra help getting through this one. Here are the most important tips to keep in mind while working through the Open For Business challenge.

  • Learn the layout of Nell’s Diner first. Nell’s Diner is a new location, and there’s no other map quite like it, so it’s best to familiarize yourself with the area before you attempt this trial. I recommend creating a custom match with the friendly ghost option turned on so you can explore without worrying about ghost hunts.
  • Play with friends. All ghost hunts are easier with multiple players working together, as you can explore more quickly and use more equipment at once, so rally some teammates to help you investigate. You can either invite your friends or matchmake with other players.
  • Use your Night Vision Goggles. The Tier III version of Head Gear you get in this trial is a great way of seeing around without having to waste an inventory slot on a Flashlight.

  • Don’t be afraid to play riskily. There’s nothing to lose, so if you want to get a bit bold and reckless, this trial is the perfect time to do so. For example, I came across some Tarot Cards and decided to try my luck using them despite the dangers that come along with doing so. I ended up using the full deck, and all that happened was my sanity got replenished to 100 percent. Have fun with it, and take some risks if you feel like it, since you can always try again if things go wrong.
  • Try out some Cursed Possessions. This is part of being willing to play riskily, but it’s important enough to be its own separate tip. In each match, a random item will spawn, so consider checking all Nell’s Diner Cursed Possession locations to see what kind of gear you have available and whether or not it’s worth trying out. In general, Tarot Cards, the Ouija Board, and the Haunted Mirror are the most useful.
  • Don’t give up. The best aspect of challenge modes is that you lose nothing if you die or guess incorrectly, so even if you’re struggling, just keep trying. This trial is one of the more accessible ones for beginners, so use it as an opportunity to learn more about ghost hunting and keep at it until you get it done.

If you’re seeking some additional challenges after finishing this trial, there are plenty to choose from. You might try completing the Nell’s Diner Ghost in the Machine Badge Easter egg or getting the Moneybags ID Card and Badge next.
