How Drops Work

Before we get into the details of exactly how to defeat Bison, first you need to understand how Puzzle Fighter mobile works. We’ve discussed how to play the game, but to take down Bison you need to understand how drops work. When we say, “drops” we don’t mean Timer Blocks or anything similar. What we’re referring to is the next gem in play that you can drop on your side of the screen. You’ll see a preview of this drop in the upper left corner of the screen so you know what’s coming next.

Now, the way Puzzle Fighter works (for mobile, console and arcade) is that both players get the exact same drops in the exact same order. In addition, the game favors whoever is dropping faster. All this means that if you’re focused on speed, or just faster at playing the game, you’ll be getting drops that will help your side of the board, and the opposing player will get those same drops, whether they help them or not.

To explain it in more detail, if you’re building a large green gem on your screen, the game will give you a green Crash Orb sooner rather than later. Even if you drop the Crash Orb elsewhere and continue building up the green gem, you’ll get another green Crash Orb fairly quickly. You just need to make sure that you’re placing gems faster than the opponent so you get the next drop first and it favors whatever colors you’re building up.

How to Beat Bison

With that knowledge we can move on to how you defeat Bison. By now you should already know that Bison is one of the most damaging characters in the game. He also has a red affinity, which means if he breaks a large red gem it will do more damage than breaking the same size gem of any other color. A good Bison player will go for red more than anything else.

To limit Bison’s damage as much as possible, you need to drop faster than the Bison player so the drops favor whatever color you’re building. Once you can do that, stack any red gems off to the side and do not create large red gems. You should be focusing on whatever your character’s affinity color is, but even if that’s red, you should still drop red the gems off to the side so they don’t form larger red gems and getting a red Crash Orb is limited.

Going into Bison battles will this strategy will not only limit their damage, but allow you to attack more freely since you’ll be getting drops that favor whatever color(s) you’re building with. This favors you because the faster you’re dropping, the faster you’re building, and the faster you’ll be sending Timer Blocks to Bison’s screen, cutting off whatever gem formations he was working on.

Finally, you should know Bison’s drop pattern. The bottom half of the drop pattern is what you want to focus on. It has three 2×2 gems across the bottom, with yellow on the left, green in the middle, and blue on the right. As you build, you should focus on placing yellow gems on the left, green gems in the middle, and blue gems to the right. With this building pattern, as Bison attacks you, it will create large gems that you can break and return the damage to him.

It’s always good to be faster, so long as you’re accurate as well. To do so, make sure you check out our other tips in our Puzzle Fighter mobile game hub!
