NOTE: If you are looking for how to remove your wanted status in Red Dead Redemption 2, visit our latest Bounty and Wanted System Guide for Red Dead Redemption 2.
While you spend a majority of your time doing good things in Red Dead Redemption, there are scenarios where you’ll end up on the wrong side of the law. This will raise your Wanted level, and put you in the crosshairs of a few adversaries who will stop at nothing to bring you down.
Fortunately, there are some ways you can get out of this situation. That said, we’ll tell you how to lower your wanted level in Red Dead Redemption.
Surrendering in Red Dead Redemption
First up, you can simply surrender by going to the local sheriff and turning yourself in. You’ll go to jail, but you won’t stay there, as you can simply complete a Bounty Hunter mission or pay the bounty fee to clear your name. You can also pay your Bounty at telegraph offices if you prefer.
Bribing in Red Dead Redemption
If you don’t feel like turning yourself in, you can always buy your way out of the situation. Approach the men chasing you – without a gun drawn – and provide half the total bounty on your head. What’s more, if you have the “Buckaroo” Legend title on hand, you’ll only need to pay 25 percent. This is a peaceful way to settle things, but it’ll cost you.
Waiting in Red Dead Redemption
You can wait out your Bounty if you prefer, with a meter that counts down in the lower left part of the screen. However, just make sure you stay out of harm’s way, and try to leave your bandana off, because wearing it will make the meter run much slower.
Additionally, try to keep an eye out for Pardon Letters inside of chests in Gang Hideouts. You can put these together and get the hunters off your back, while at the same time keeping your money. Good luck!
