Move over, Kanye West – there’s a true master that’s about to drop some dope game beats.
Atari has announced over the weekend that it has signed on RZA, legendary member of the Wu-Tang Clan, to produce a new album based on the company’s legacy. This includes music and sound effects from games like Asteroids, Centipede and Pong, amongst other titles.
RZA had worked with the company before, providing voiceover for Atari’s Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure. He’s also an avid old-school game player, so that certainly helps when it comes to his creativity.
“I’m so excited to work on these iconic games to deliver what I believe will be one of my best albums,” said RZA. “I am going to invite some of my friends to join me and it will be Game On with the first beat!”
“We are thrilled to partner with RZA, one of the greatest hip-hop producers of all time,” said Fred Chesnais, Chief Executive Officer, Atari. “RZA is a multi-talented artist and soundtrack virtuoso and we cannot wait to hear the new tracks he creates based on Atari’s iconic video game sounds and music.”
The album doesn’t have a release date, but is expected sometime next year. We’re eager to see who jumps in and joins the party.
